Most of the Pterocarpus wood are precious timber. The wood material is prominent, with the high stability and the economic value. There is natural distribution in South America, Africa and tropical Asia. And it belongs to the high-end wood in traditional Chinese furniture industry. In this paper, through the study of extract of four Pterocarpus wood composition, and the contrast with extract of two Dalbergia wood,to explore the differences of extract between different tree species. At the same time, focused research on “White Flocculus” structure of Pterocarpus macarocarpus for the first time. And the process of formation and processing methods are discussed in this paper. In addition, through the study of the water treatment of rosewood, to explore the way of eliminating “White Flocculus” and the impact on basic material of test materials, providing theoretical basis for using Pterocarpus wood. The results showed as the followings.(1) It is found that the composition of benzyl alcohol extract between different tree species are varies widely. The components of Pterocarpus santalinus and Pterocarpus macarocarpus are similar, and with Dalbergia retusa, but have a big difference with Pterocarpus erinaceus.(2) The " White Flocculus " has a acicular structure under a microscope, and presents the crystalline state under polarizing microscope.(3) The main component of the " White Flocculus " is beta-Eudesmol, which is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine composition. And it is also exists in the Pterocarpus macarocarpus. In addition, Pterocarpus santalinus has the composition too, but the concentration is relatively low. In the Dalbergia retusa and Pterocarpus erinaceus, it does not find the existence of the component.(4) The closed environment and evaporation of water is the necessary condition to the formation mechanism of the " White Flocculus " on the surface of Pterocarpus macarocarpus.(5) It is found that the heat treatment has a good effect on preventing the formation of " White Flocculus ". At the same time, the main performance of the material is improved. With the extension of heat-treatment time and temperature, the basic density and the radial and tangential shrinkage of the four materials were decreased. The lightness L * was decreased but the red and green product index a * was increased.
