Nutritional stress and food resource scarcity are birds must adapt to the challenges facing the environment. Therefore, in order to study the stress responses and adaptive thermogenesis of small birds when the short-term fasting. we examined that fast tree sparrow av-UCP and Myostatin effect of on the heat production, by energy metabolism, the organ morphology plasticity, thermogenic capacity of muscle and liver, the expression of av-UCP and myostatin in tree sparrow(Passer montanus).Thirty tree sparrows were live-trapped by mist net in Wenzhou Zhejiang Province. After one week adaption to laboratory conditions, they were randomly assigned into control group and experimental group; experimental group was divided into four small groups according to different fasting time, were 6H, 12 H, 18 H and 24 H, respectively. The results showed: with the prolonged fasting time, the experimental group tree sparrow weight was significantly lower than the control group; between groups overall BMR and unit BMR also showed a significant decreasing trend, there were the lowest in the 24H; the experimental group "central organ" between the groups was significantly lower in liver, heart, lungs, spleen and brain, the digestive tract occurred phenotypic plasticity and its mass and length decreased markedly; "the peripheral organs" also showed a decreased trend; state-4-resoiration and the activity of COX were significantly reduced in muscle and liver; Fasting also contributed to reduced the amount of av-UCP mRNA expression, and the expression of BMR was positively related to the amount; the expression of myostatin protein increased, the negative correlation between the expression quantity and BMR. These suggested that av-UCP and myostatin may be involved in the energy metabolism of the birds. This study is to reveal the correlation between av-UCP and myostatin and energy metabolism. Simultaneously, it is further revealed the molecular mechanisms regulating energy metabolism changes of birds.
