The Ornamental Grasses’ Application And Introduction In Nanchang Area

Ornamental grasses as an new kind of emerging botany material in landscape. It has very high value of ornamental characteristic and environment adaptation. This paper treat ornamental grasses as research object, though discovery and introduction in Nanchang. To provide certain reference basis of ornamental grass’ s application in Nanchang and the similar area of china. The main results are as follows:From April 2014 to March 2015, selected 11 plots to investigated the applied situation of ornamental grasses in Nanchang area landscapes’ green types. The results represent that,in the 11 plots, the ornamental grass had 7 families and 27 species(including varietas and breed), the Gramineae has 13 species; planting methods often take clump planting and chip planting; ornamental characteristics included the color of leaf blades, plant type,inflorescence etc. The application mode comprised ground cover plants, flower border,waterfront. Generally speaking, the kinds of ornamental grasses in Nanchang area were still fewer, based on traditional kinds, utilization of new species is not enough, the configuration modes were single.In March 2014 to April 2015, 10 species of ornamental grasses had introduced from shanghai Shangfang Horticultural company to Nanchang area-for the cultivation experiment in Jiangxi Agricultural university. The results showed that: Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’, P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’, Panicum virgatum ‘Heavy Mental’,Chasmanthium latifolium and Miscanthus sinensis 5 species warm-season ornamental grasses’ green stage ordinary arrive in April the florescence often between June to November, the color and pattern are usually different, the florescence is also longer than others. Among 5 cold-season ornamental grasses Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri, Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’, Sesleria autumnalis, Festuca glauca, only Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’s color could maintained all the year, it is appropriate to applied in Nanchang area. Sesleria autumnalis and Festuca glauca’s over-summer survival rate are lower, they are better used in spring and winter; Stipa tenuissima’s growing condition seemed no improvement in the period, not good at well applied in Nanchang. Carex fraxeri’s leaf color is changed after introduced, Need to be the follow-up observation.Using the gray correlation analysis method to evaluate the value of 10 species ornamental grasses during one whole year. The results as follow: in spring, the correlation with ideal grass from high to lower order is Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’, Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’, Festuca glauca, Miscanthus sinensis, Panicum virgatum‘Heavy Mental’, Chasmanthium latifolium, Sesleria autumnalis, P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’,Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri. In summer, the order is Pennisetum setaceum‘Rubrum’,Chasmanthium latifolium, Miscanthus sinensis, Panicum virgatum‘Heavy Mental’,P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’, Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’, Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri,Festuca glauca, Sesleria autumnalis; in autumn the order is Pennisetum setaceum‘Rubrum’, Miscanthus sinensis, Chasmanthium latifolium, Panicum virgatum‘Heavy Mental’, Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’, P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’, Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri, Festuca glauca, Sesleria autumnalis; in winter the order is Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’, P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’, Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri,Festuca glauca, Sesleria autumnalis. Different kind ornamental grass has different ornamental season and characteristics, we should according to the quality of variety landscape, combine with the features of various kinds of ornamental grasses, take reasonable configuration and options.In summarized, the ornamental grasses’ species in Nanchang area are not enough,application are not wildly. To the 10 introduced species ornamental grasses, Pennisetum setaceum‘Rubrum’, Chasmanthium latifolium, Miscanthus sinensis, Panicum virgatum‘Heavy Mental’, P.lopecuroides‘Little Bunny’, Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’ are well applied in Nanchang; Festuca glauca, Sesleria autumnalis just suit in winter and spring; Stipa tenuissima, Carex fraxeri needed the follow-up observation. In suggestion,we could increase the ornamental grasses’ utilization degree in Nanchang. Fulling exert ornamental grasses’ characteristics of high visual value, high resistance to the bad condition,and lower maintenance, in favor of create the conserving garden and conserving society.
