The vegetation was the foundation of changing ecological environment and improving the positiveecological cycle. The competition between plants was a major factor affecting plant growth, and thecarbon storage was one of the main functions of the forest. The research objective was mixedbroadleaf-conifer forest in Tianmu Mount preserve. Used the typical sampling law establishmentresearch type place, and surveyed each measurement factors of species within the plots, which studiedthe composition and structure of the plant species and calculated the carbon storage of the simples andthe dominant tree species. We also analyzed the intraspecific and interspecific competition of thedominant species in mixed broadleaf-conifer forest quantitatively. In addition, the relationship betweenthe carbon storage and competition of each tree was discussed. It not only could contribute to reveal thepossible mechanisms driving on competition and carbon storage of conifer and broad-leaves mixedforest in Tianmu Mount community, but also could provide a certain theories basis for the sustainabledevelopment of forest and scientific management. The results show that:(1)The result indicated that there were51species belonging to44genera and27families in thecommunity, in which gymnosperms comprised2families,4genera and4species, and angiosperms25families,40genera and47species. It could reflect that the composition of the plant families、generaand species was abundant. This also explained the tree species were rich and the stand composition wasactually somewhat complex.(2)The value method was used to determine dominant species of mixed broadleaf-conifer forestin Tianmu Mount preserve. The results showed that there were9dominant tree species, which includingPinus massoniana, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Liquidamba formosana, Quercus glandulifera, Quercusfabric, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Symplocos sumuntia, Castanea henryi, Quercus acutissima. The largeand middle diameter trees of Pinus massoniana accounted for absolute advantage. But the otherdominant tree species were the opposite, which reduced with increasing diameter gradually.(3)This study used gradually expanding method to determine the suitable stand competitionradius, which was7m. Using5kinds of competition carry on the competition analysis to the growth ofcompetitive situation of dominant conifer tree species, the calculated results were different by eachmodel. And the fitting results (R2) between the competition models and DBH were inconsistent. Afteradding crown and tree height factors, it could help to improve the model, and the competition model(CI4) worked best.(4) The intraspecific competition of dominant tree species was different in the mixedbroadleaf-conifer forest. And the intraspecific competition was stronger than the other dominant speciesin Pinus massoniana、Cunninghamia lanceolata、Liquidamba formosana and Quercus glanduliferapopulations. It also showed that there would be self-thinning in the Pinus massoniana、Cunninghamialanceolata、Liquidamba formosana and Quercus glandulifera community. The dominant tree specieswhose intraspecific competition was the fiercest, Pinus massoniana、 Cunninghamia lanceolata、Liquidamba formosana and Quercus glandulifera, also possessed the cruelest interspecific competition. On the contrary, both intraspecific and interspecific competition of the species including Quercus fabric, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Symplocos sumuntia, Castanea henryi and Quercus acutissima. Pinusmassoniana、Cunninghamia lanceolata and Liquidamba formosana were the strongest competitor ofother dominant tree species. This was mainly because they were the absolutely dominant tree speciesand had similar niche requirements with other dominant tree species.(5)The carbon storage of Pinus massoniana was the largest in the conifer, while the carbonstorage of Quercus fabric was maximum in the broadleaf. The relationship between the competition andcarbon storage was studied, and the result showed that the objective tree’s carbon storage weakengradually with the increase of the competition.
