| The purpose of this project is to study the impact on the production performance and productquality of Limousin hybrid beef cattle and Holstein dairy cattle by feeding them with food-saving feeds,and the study results are demonstratively popularized for beef and dairy cattle farming in Beijingsuburbs. The main ingredients of food-saving feeds come from the by-products of industry brewing andagricultural production in Beijing area. These by-products in themselves are of low value, but their rawmaterials, which are agricultural products, can retain a lot of fiber, protein, carbohydrates and othernutrients during the processing. Therefore, it has great significance to replace the normal feeds of foodsand other conventional crops only providing basic needs for animal production by such by-products richin all kinds of required nutrients.The study includes:(1) resources research of subsidiary agricultural products in Beijing;(2)mensurate and analyse the nutrient component of main subsidiary agricultural products;(3) excogitatethe formula of food-saving feeds;(4) beef cattle farming and slaughtering tests;(5)milk productionperformance tests;(6)measure and calculate the economic benefits of food-saving feeds;(7) technologypromotion.Though an investigation on food-saving feeds, the reserve of industrial and agriculturalby-products in Beijing area has been preliminary estimated, and a conventional nutritional analysis hasbeen conducted. The results show that the Beijing area has a huge reserve of brewer’s grains, cottonseedcake, tofu dregs, molasses, Chinese dates, soybean hulls, cassava flour and other industrial andagricultural by-products, which are suitable for the production food-saving feeds. Based on the NRCnutritional needs for beef and dairy cattle production, a feed formulation has been calculated accordingto the CNCPS formula.According to the test results of feeding beef and dairy cattle with food-saving feed, under the samefeeding conditions, the beef cattle which are fed with food-saving feeds show no significant differencein weight gain, slaughtering rate and superior part cutting ratio with those fed with conventional feeds.The same as dairy cattle’s milk production, milk composition and blood biochemical parameters. Thus,the test shows that the production performance of beef and dairy cattle which are fed with food-savingfeeds containing the same nutrients as conventional feeds does not degrade, which means thatsaving-food feeds are of very great significance. Since the demonstrative promotion of food-savingfeeds technology was triggered in several beef and dairy cattle farms in Beijing suburbs,12,800beefcattle and4,200dairy cattle have been raised, bringing in annual benefits3.91million yuan and6.893million yuan respectively. According to incomplete statistics in the end of2012, the whole country areraising more than10million cattle, indicating that the promotion of food-saving feeds will undoubtedlycreate enormous economic benefits and will accelerate the healthy and steady development of China’scattle industry. |
