The object of this study was conducted to determine the effects of cooling in high temperature environment on the behaviors of the raccoon dog production performance. In this experiment, the raccoon dog with similar age and litter weight were selected and randomly divided into control and two test groups. Control group was the traditional cages. Test Ⅰ and Ⅱ group was respectively added with a foam board and a shade net on the traditional cage. The experiment was divided into two stages From June 24 th to August 12 th and August 13 th to October 1st. Animal welfare indicators included behaviors, blood index, signs and fur quality were observed. The results:First stage: Compared with the experimental group, the cage temperature of control group was highest and significantly higher than test group Ⅰ at 14:30(P <0.05); Average daily gain was significantly decreased(P<0.05); Body temperature and respiratory rate were significantly increased(P < 0.05); Guard hair and respiratory were short and thin; Albumin, Total protein, T3 and T4 concentrations were significantly decreased in blood(P<0.05), however, blood urea nitrogen was significant increased(P<0.05); Raccoon dogs’ water intake, frequency of urination and feeding time were significantly increased(P<0.05). The second stage: Compared with experimental group, the cage temperature of control group was highest and significantly higher than test group Ⅱ at 14:30(P<0.05), While there were no significant difference between group Ⅰ; Average daily gain was significantly decreased(P<0.05);The bred sable body temperature and breathing rate of the control group were significantly higher than test group(P < 0.05); The blood albumin and total protein concentrations were significantly decreased(P <0.05), With the test Ⅰ no significant difference between groups(P﹥0.05), Blood urea nitrogen was significantly increased(P<0.05) and T4 concentrations was significantly decreased in blood(P<0.05);Guard hair and villus were short and thin. Feeding time, frequency of urination and water intake were all significantly increased(P<0.05).In conclusion, the high temperature of nature environment produced adversely affects on production performance, blood index, behavior, health and welfare in the summer. After two kinds of treatment of the temperature control process, the welfare parameters and fur quality of caged breeding raccoon were all improved. Two ways were simple, less investment and could be spread.
