As a widely distributed soil type in China, saline-alkaline land is mainly distributed in inland of Northeast China, North China, Northwest China and coastal regions. The utilization of saline-alkaline land is relatively low due to its special nature. However, nowadays as land resource becomes increasingly scarce, it is particularly important to accelerate the exploitation and use of saline-alkaline land.Greening on saline-alkaline land is tough problem which has not been completely solved up to now. A lot of improvement skills have been put forward to solve this problem in China, but the same skill has different effects in different regions. With East-Cixi Binhai District, which has the typical characteristics of Hangzhou Bay saline-alkaline land, as the research object, this paper chooses comparable samples of saline-alkaline land greening construction skills tried out in this district in recent years and makes an analysis of three greening construction skills:backfill with earth from other places, adding organic elements and adding soil insulation layer. After field investigation and data analysis, we find physical-chemical properties of the arbor, shrub and soil adding insulation layer are better than those of the soil adopting other two skills within several years after planting. Soil PH and TDS measurement also indicates that no obvious salt and alkali returning phenomenon is observed with the soil adding insulation layer while secondary saline-alkalization especially alkali returning occurs in the soil adopting other two skills.By analyzing and comparing the greening work done in East-Cixi Binhai District and using successful cases and experiences in saline-alkaline land greening of other places as reference, the paper suggests that the skill of adding soil insulation layer should be adopted for the greening of important landscape in East-Cixi Binhai District to ensure the use of proper improvement skills according to different landscape requirements. Besides, it also suggests a plant introduction and selection test field should be established in Binhai District to cultivate saplings suitable for saline-alkaline land. It is expected that these suggestions will help to improve the saline-alkaline land greening landscape in East-Cixi Binhai District. Meanwhile, it will also offer a valuable reference for plants landscape construction in similar saline-alkaline land of other cities.
