Thripini is widely distributed around the world, including more than 160 genera and 1000 species in the word, in China, 56 genera and 220 species have been reported.Species of Thripini are important pests in agriculture and forestry. They can infest leaves, buds, flowers and other parts of plants, which cause plants wilt. Secretions of thips can induce plants disease and seriously influence quality and yield of crop, resulting in an agricultural economic loss. Currently, in China, thips research is still at α level, many species harmful to crop are still unknown. This study focus on the Thripini taxonomy, which lay a foundation for the research. This paper includes the following parts: the history of Thripini research in China and abroad. Taxonomic characters are reviewed and outlined. Collection and study method are described in detail. Totally, 37 genera and 109 species of Thripini are described, including 3 new species, 1 new record of China and 1 new combination. Keys of genera and species are given. Photographs of all species are provided. In the appendix, all known species of Thripini in China are listed. The new taxa, new records of China and new combination are listed below:New species: Stenchaetothrips hupingshanensis sp. nov., Stenchaetothrips peculiaris sp. nov., Stenchaetothrips bicolor sp. nov.New recorded species: Megalurothrips mucunae(Priesner, 1938)New combination: Taeniothrips grisbrunneus(Feng, Chou & Li, 1995) comb. nov.
