| Because of the improvement of nature environment and the consciousness of people’s environmental protection enhancing, the wild Asian elephants once extinct in Pu’er region return to their hometown. Based on the losses of the crops and human injury frequently occurred by Asian elephants, we referred to a number of related files and the record of seasonal monitor of the villages where the accidents happened.On the type of crops, wild Asian elephant hurt food corps and cash crops more often, the loss is 39.57% and 53.66%. The human injury accidents caused by Asian elephants are little, only 1.02% of totally loss.On the district of the accidents take place, the losses at Simao town, Liushun village, Nuozhadu town and Zhengdong town are the mostly highest loss. Liushun village is the highest on the food crops loss, and the percentage is 39.18%(rice and corn). Simao town is the highest on the cash crops loss, and the percentage is 42.06%(mainly rubber, white gourd and banana). The average loss of the food crops mainly happen between May and October, and is highest in July,27.53 percent. The average loss of the cash crops mainly happen between July and December, and is highest in October, 19.04 percent.On the choice of which crops they steal, the wild elephants cause damages to eleven kind of crops. The amount of loss is highest on corn, and the percentage is 25.75%. Rice, rubber, white gourd, sugarcane, coffee and pumpkin take second place. The loss of pine, tea and fruit tree is lowest, only 0.65%,0.39% and 0.15%.On the population types, the elephants usually appears as a single male and multi-female or get together. On the behavior of the wild elephants, the time they appear is infinite during the observation period (during 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.). The frequency at noon and afternoon is higher, they appear 27 times at noon, and the frequency is 37.50%, and in the afternoon they appear 33 times, and the frequency is 45.83%. |
