The shortage of water resources in China is becoming more and more serious, The cultivated land area decreases continuously. The ecological situation is grim increasingly, so developing of ecological agriculture is particularly urgent and necessary. Millet has a good ecological benefits. The drought resistance, barren water is its advantage. Millet is a typical environmental-friendly economic crop. In recent years, the millet planting area increases, the traditional millet planting mode has been unable to meet the large-scale cultivation. This dilemma is reflected in the mechanical field management process of millet in the low level, huge labor intensity and low efficiency of management work.In this paper, the author has developed a weeding and fertilizing machine for millet field management. The machine can complete the work for weeding and fertilizing efficiently, and greatly reduce the labor intensity of farmers. Mechanical weeding can reduce the use of chemical herbicides on soil and groundwater pollution. Fertilization increases the utilization rate of chemical fertilizer and reduces farming costs, so the agriculture development is sustainable.The main research contents of this paper are as follows:First of all, the author summaries and reviews the information about the cultivation operation of mechanical structure, principle, characteristics and applicability in domestic and foreign. And according to the principle of combining agricultural machinery and agronomy of millet cultivation, the author visit the agriculture experts and farmers with an open mind. As the basic requirements of millet cultivation conditions and agronomic are clear, the author ultimately determines the general design requirements of millet weeding and fertilizing machine.Secondly, the author confirms the composition of the whole structure in accordance with the millet cultivation agronomic requirements and design requirements. The machine consists of frame, wheels, weeding, fertilizing device components, ditching components, transmission system. In the process of developing the key requirements, the machine must have the ability of reducing the damage rate of crop, so we improve the planar weeding shovel device. In addition, the opener of column design optimization of the whole structure is more compact, the weight is reduced, so the whole machine has the using performance and economic performance.The machine has the following characteristics:(1)The machine adopts disc opener bilateral fertilization could improve the utilization rate of fertilizer, on the other hand, in the process of the opener seedlings with soil and in soil are separated, they turn the soil to prevent damaging to the crop root system.(2)The plane type weeding shovel, the penetration resistance is small, less disturbance of the soil; reduce the protective strip width, it increases weeding shovel operating range, and then extents to get rid of weeds between rows.( 3) Cultivation parts fertilizer opener and achieve horizontal and components can be adjusted up and down to meet the different row spacing and weeding, fertilizing depth of furrow depth requirements, so that the machine has strong adaptability.(4)The whole woks with a small tractor, so it is suitable for hilly and small area, and further reflects the wide range of the machine in the work.The field experiments Indicate: All working parts of the operating can meet the design objectives. It is able to complete the millet, ditching, fertilizing weeding machine well, so the whole machine meets the requirements of millet cultivation agriculture.
