Research Of Rejuvenation And Maintenance Technology And Protective Strategies Of Ancient And Famous Trees In Several Northern Areas

Ancient and famous trees are precious heritages left by our predecessors. They are rare natural resources of plants and historical relics, and having multiple values of development and utilization. Therefore, this research based on the investigation of the present situations, focused on underground environment problems, rejuvenation technology and protective strategies, with the purpose to provide advices and references of protection for the ancient and famous trees. The main researches were as follows:(1)Research on the environmental problems of ancient and famous trees Through field researches of ancient and famous trees in several parks of Beijing and Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, we found that there were many problems impeded the healthy growth of old trees existed in their environment. For example, poor site conditions, insufficient underground space, compact soil for frequently human tread, large area of paving around trees, lead to soil erosion and accumulation, soil erosion and sedimentation, nutritional deficiencies, soil pollution. These adverse conditions deteriorated physical and chemical properties of soil, old trees growth potential vary with environment deterioration and trend to senescence or even death.(2)Investigation of the underground rejuvenation of old trees in Beijing Considered field researches and literatures, we found that there are several technical measures of underground rejuvenation. For example, replace poor soil, improve ventilation and water permeability, rejuvenation ditch or nutrition pit technology. Improving ventilation and water permeability measures including the rigid paving replacing, suspension pavement building, surface drilling and digging, ventilation tube installing, drainage ventilation complex installing and other improved methods. By using above measures of underground rejuvenation scientifically, we can effectively recover moribund old trees.(3)Daily water and fertilizer management of ancient and famous trees With field research data, now the daily maintenance of ancient and famous trees were mainly focus on fertilization, irrigation and scarification. Careful daily maintenance could create a more stable growth space for old trees, and gave full play to rejuvenation measures.(4)Rejuvenation engineering and effect of the ancient P. Orientalis in Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor On the basis of the ancient P. Orientalis’ survival investigation, we found that authority of Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor had taken rejuvenation project on five old P. Orientalis of Xuanyuan Temple. Overground engineering including to stem dead branches on the ground, clean up the original tree hole cement filler cooper, shrub tree in the pool, replace the cover plant, expand the tree pool, set the fence. Underground engineering including construction and rejuvenation ditch, install ventilation tube, change the shop. After more than three years, these five old trees have got a certain degree of recovery.Currently the protection work of ancient and famous trees in our country has made certain progress, but there are still many deficiencies. Suggestions for current problems were discussed. First, improved the ancient trees protect consciousness. Second, increased invests of protection of ancient trees. Third, developed advanced technology. Forth, strengthen the infrastructure construction of ancient trees. Fifth, established files for maintenance management and rejuvenation technology of old trees.
