Fuzhengjiedusan is a tradtional chinese medicine prescription, which ismade of Radix, Astragalus, Epimedium in a certain percentage. It has been enbodiedin Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia in2010version. The prescription of Radix,Astragalus and Epimedium has a certain role of antiviral activity. The threecomponents contain various antiviral active ingredients, and the polysaccharide is thecommon anti-virus component of three drugs contained in this prescription.Newcastle disease causes serious damage to Chinese poultry industry and results insignificant economic losses. Although vaccination is the most effective measure toagainst Newcastle Disease and has being taken, but there arestill some outbreak ofNewcastle disease with atypical symptoms, and have no effective drugs for treatment.Traditional Chinese medicine have an unique advantage in the prevention andtreatment of viral diseases.According to he prescription of Fuzhengjiedusan, we got different formulation,powder,decoction, and compound polysaccharide to investigate the its antiviral effecton Newcastle disease virus in this experiment. The complex polysaccharides yieldand sugar content was determined by sulfuric acid and anthrone method, and thenthe composite polysaccharide was fomulated in oral liquid and injection. Thesedifferent fomulation were fed to chicken infected artificially with Newcastle diseasevirus in different way, and then their anti-NDV effects were evaluated by mortalityrate.The extracting rate of Radix, Astragalus and Epimedium compoundpolysaccharide was3.671%, the polysaccharide content was82.2%; polysaccharideyield was3.018%.The results of Anti-NDV in vivo trail showed that the anti-NDV effect ofFuzhengjiedusan powder, Fuzhengjiedusan decoction and complex polysaccharidesoral solution were better than complex polysaccharides injection. The anti-NDVeffects of different formulation in single feeding way for prevention or treatment werebetter than in both way for prevention and treatment. The minimum mortality rate was 47%which is same in low-dose combination polysaccharide oral prevention group,the middle-dose group or high-dose drug treatment group, Ribavirin treatment group,powder decoction and decoction treatment group. The lower mortality rate was53%that is same amongpowder prevention group, middle-dose and high-dose combinationpolysaccharide oral prevention group.
