In this study, taking Xiaolongshan Longmen forestry station in Gansu Province as ourresearch object, based on SPOT5remote sensing images in2003,2007,2011, supplementedwith1:50000topographic maps, field survey data and some related statistical maps, weanalyze land use of three periods and summarized land changes in each time period.According to the natural geographic factors, national policies and forest managementplanning data, we analyzed the driving force of land use changes during the study period. The major research results are as follows:(1) SPOT5remote sensing images of the three periods was processed by geometriccalibration, data fusion, band combination, enhanced processing and image mosaic usingimage processing software-ERDAS.(2) Through remote sensing and statistics analysis, the forestry station are categorizedinto several types: coniferous forests, broad-leaved forests, mixed forests, shrub forests, immature forest plantations, immature fencing woodland, open forest lands, suitable land forforests, etc. Broad-leaved forest area accounted for the largest proportion of the forest farmarea, which is over than70%; followed by coniferous forest, accounting for17%; while theremaining7forest types account for only about10%.(3) Conversion matrix of land resources of the forestry station was processed throughArcGIS and Excel, and the transformation among the land status was also analyzed. Thebroad-leaved forests showed the biggest growing area, which increased by665.31hm2;followed by coniferous forest, which increased by242.19hm2. The area of immature fencingwoodlands showed the biggest decrees, which decreased by842.99hm2; followed byimmature forest lands, which decreased by97.92hm2.(4) The land status and its changes in different years, different altitudes, different slopes, and different aspects were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the altitude above1900m inhibited the changes among land status to a certain extent, while slope and aspect did not have significant influences on the changes of land status. According to nationalpolicies, forest management planning and the transfer matrix of land resources, it isconcluded that the adjustment of national policy and the implementation of forestmanagement planning are the main driving factors of land status change in Longmen forestrystation, Xiaolongshan Mountain.
