Investigation And Control Of The Main Plant Diseases And Insect Pests Of Walnut In Shaanxi Province

Shaanxi Province is one of China’s three major walnuts producing provinces,especially Shangluo region, due to its unique geographical location and climaticcharacteristics make it a suitable walnut growing region. Walnut production is seriouslyaffected by plant diseases and pests in recent years including the Shaanxi Province. Thus,we conducted surveys of occurrence of major diseases and pests, explored theiroccurrence regularity, provided reasonable preventive measures to apply to theproduction in the main walnut producing areas of Shaanxi province.The study investigated the walnut rot disease induced from freezing, chemical controltests to walnut rot disease, walnuts major pests species survey, Atrijuglans hetauhei Yangoccurrence dynamic and sex pheromone traps tests. The results were summarized asfollow: the walnut rot disease induced by freeze injury occurrence regularity:frost-induced walnut rot disease occurrence was directly related to site conditions,cultivation and management level, the tree position; screened two effective controlpesticides: Prevention rot experts and Xinfudi; according to the statistics of the differentdamage parts in Shanyang County, Shaanxi Province, the major pest species of walnut:Atrijuglans hetauhei Yang, Gastrolina depressa, Dichocrocis punctiferalis, Silba sp,Batocera horsfieldi, Cicadella viridis, Sphaerotrypes coimbatorensis Stebbing and so on;clarified adult life history and population dynamics of A. hetauhei in field and did A.hetauhei sex pheromone field trapping test, in order to get the best time and best methodto control pests.The results enriched the theoretical contents of integrated diseases and pests controlfor walnuts, and extended the control methods and strategies. It is very important forwalnut industry development in Shaanxi Province through the sites to build gardens,integrated control managements to increase walnut production.
