Especially as the frontier minority areas, the governance of urban illegal construction has its particularity, governing the illegal construction in Urumqi City is of great significance.Related to the concepts and theories of illegal construction, and combined with Urumqi City illegal construction governance mechanism, this paper summarizes Urumqi illegal construction of the overall situation and analyzes the main problems exist in the governance of illegal construction in Urumqi. On the basis of drawing lessons from domestic and international experience, the ways to improve the public participation in the management of illegal construction in Urumqi city should be put forward: through the guarantee of procedure justice to realize the illegal construction governance, to change the concept of governance, to advocate multiple governance, to straighten out the management system, to improve the governance mechanism, to perfect supporting policies of housing supply.
