| The evolution of industrial structure and urbanization is the eternal theme of urban agglomeration, as well as a hot issue for academic research. As a new form of urbanization in China, urban agglomeration has such features as distinct hierarchy, clear division of labor and cooperative co-evolution, thus it has more advantages in carrying industry than a single city. How to take the advantages to form a virtuous cycle between the process of industrial structure evolution and urbanization, thus realizing the coordinated development, is the only way for urban agglomeration to achieve sustainable development. Lacking of coordination between industrial development and urbanization process will result in the loss of economic efficiency, affecting the sustainable development of urban agglomeration.As a regional association, it is largely different from a single city in terms of industrial structure and urbanization: not only in the composing proportion of each industry and the relations among them, but also in the geographic industry layout and the division of collaborative relationships; it refers to the joint development of different-sized cities’ urbanization process of population, space, production and lifestyle owing to constantly improving city function and levered city pattern. Broadly speaking, the spatial attribute of industrial structure and the systematic attribute of urbanization are significantly strengthened in urban agglomeration, which are weakened in a single area. Considering all these differences, this essay builds a compound index system for urban agglomeration to describe its industrial structure and urbanization process following scientific and overall principles. Both the industrial structure index system and the urbanization index system contain 2 dimensions and 12 sub-indexes.To maintain rapid and sustainable economic growth, the urban agglomeration must coordinate industry and urbanization process. The research takes Chengyu urban agglomeration as the study subject to investigate the coordination level in the process of industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization. The way the essay develops is as follows:First of all, the essay studies the concept, the connotation and the related theory of urban agglomeration, industrial structure’s evolution, urbanization and the coordinated development of the last two. Then the essay analyzes the internal mechanism and the realization route of coordinated development of industry and urbanization, elaborating on the inner principle which associates them. After that, the essay performs analysis on the relation of industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization in Chengyu urban agglomeration qualitatively and quantitatively, and analyzes the correlation between them according to their respective development trend. Then, the essay carries out empirical study on the correlation level of industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization in Chengyu urban agglomeration:Firstly, the essay builds a compound index system for urban agglomeration to describe its industrial structure and urbanization process, then uses the Harmonious Development Degree Model to evaluate the coordinate level and judges it by setting the evaluation criterion; Secondly, through analyzing the results, the essay explores the development rules of coordination level between industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization, then points out the existing problems and the causes. At the end of the essay, relevant suggestions are put forward to harmonic development of industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization process. Shortages and prospects for future research are also pointed out.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Industry and urbanization are associated by the ―technological progress- factor flow- agglomeration economy‖ mechanism which enables them to realize coordinated development.(2) On the whole, the coordination level between the industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization is on the rise. Before 2006, the coordination level was low, both the industrial structure and urbanization were at a low level; Since 2011, the development level of the two systems had been improving and the development gap was narrow to a reasonable scope. In 2013, the coordination level moved to good-coordination-phase, but the slow development pace of industrial structure inhibited the further improvement of coordination level between the two systems.(3) Causes of the uncoordinated state between the industrial structure and urbanization could be that in early stage, the industrial structure caused typical urban-rural dual structure and low level of urbanization. Afterwards, the low level of urbanization in turn slowed down the pace of industrial structure’s evolution. As urbanization got more attention from the government and many kinds of measures taken, the industrial structure’s development level fell behind and inhibited further improvement of coordination level. In brief, the respective development level of the two system have effect on each other and affect the coordination level between them in the end.(4) Coordination not only refers to a state, but also means the process of coordinated development. The two systems and the internal factors interact in the development of agglomeration and cause conflicts all the time, only through joint adjustment and constant running-in can the two systems realize dynamic coordination and optimum efficiency. It is necessary to take the matching degree of urbanization into consideration and make corresponding advancement when promoting the evolution of industrial structure, and vice versa. The paper also expects to provide valuable reference for other similar areas.Based on the conclusions, the paper puts forward suggestions to harmonic development of industrial structure’s evolution and urbanization process in terms of advancing industrial structure’s evolution and promoting urbanization. In the end, the essay points out shortages and prospects for future research. |
