Research Of Cost Efficiency On Chinese Logistics Listed Companies

The continuous and healthy development of economic promotes the logistics industry which becomes much more important in national economic development.However, compared with western countries, the efficiency of our countries’ logistics industry is still at a low level and some problems also appear at the same time, which are a low degree of market standardization, poor level of enterprise management and high operating costs. Therefore, the focus of business, government and academic circles is how to reduce logistics operating costs and maintain competitive advantages. Promoting cost efficiency of Chinese logistics industry can effectively promote the development of logistics industry, and thus also help to promote Chinese economic development.Based on the financial panel data of 38 enterprises during the time between 2004-2014, this thesis selects the net fixed assets, labor costs and main business costs as input indicators, the main business income, and total profit as output indicators. The new cost efficiency model in Data Envelopment Analysis method and the Meta-frontier function which considers the technology gap among areas are jointly applied in investigation the cost efficiency of the listed logistics company. The current condition and the changing rule of Chinese logistics industry are studied. Also, this thesis compares the cost efficiency after dividing areas and then makes recommendations for the development of Chinese logistics industry.Firstly, this thesis uses DEA method to calculate cost efficiency of listed logistics company, which analyzes from horizontal and longitudinal dimensions. Through horizontal comparison we know the changes of efficiency in the same year of 38 logistics enterprises; Through longitudinal comparison, we discover cost efficiency of 38 listed logistics companies in 2004-2014 has further degraded. Then cost efficiency specifically decomposes into pure cost efficiency and scale efficiency and analyzes the reasons of invalid cost efficiency companies.Then the 38 listed logistics companies are divided into three areas: Circum-Bohai-Sea Region, Yangtze River Delta and the Zhujiang River Delta.This article calculates cost efficiency and TGR of three areas under regional cost frontier and meta cost frontier. Comparing TGR we find that TGR has significant difference and further analyze the relevant reasons. Finally this article puts forward the corresponding countermeasures.The aim of this article is to reduce costs, improve competitive advantages for logistics enterprises and provide theory support,empirical basis for formulating logistics industry policy.
