It is one of the important strategies during the poverty alleviation and development of the new period on maintaining the basic balance between the eco-environment and economic development in poor areas. As the human society developing, the economic growth is often based on high costs on the destroy of the ecological environment and overexploitation of resource. The impact from eco-environment to poverty has been taken seriously all around the world especially in developing countries. But the relationship between eco-environment and poverty has not been discussed by scientific, reasonable and quantitative method to analyze. In particular, for fourteen national contiguous special poverty-stricken area, the related research is precious few.In view of the existing sorts of problems, this research takes six of national contiguous special poverty-stricken areas---Daxinganliang area, Yanshan-Taihanghan area, Lvliang area、 Wuling area, Wumeng area and Qinba area---as large scale study area20counties in Lvliang area and the surrounding36non-poverty counties as small scale study area。These areas make up multi-type and multi-scale typical study area to research relationship between eco-environment and poverty in national contiguous special poverty-stricken areas.Firstly the different region’s ecological poverty index systems for different study areas are systematically built, and by integrated use of the subjective weighting method in large scale study area and the subjective and objective weighting method in small scale study area, the ecological environment quality is evaluated in the perspective of natural environment. Then, the coupling coordination degree in large scale study area is calculated by coupling ecological environment quality index and economic index and that in small scale study area is calculated by coupling ecological environment quality index and average disposable income. Finally, the spatial variation is analyzed in details respectively at provincial-city-county scale.Results show that:1) in the large small scale study area, the number of coordinated development type is almost equal to recession disorder type, but most countries cannot develop eco-environment and economy synchronously; the eco-environment quality in middle part and southern part is higher than that in northern part; the degree of coordinated development in national poverty countries is obviously lower than that in non-poverty countries, at the same time, the development of eco-environment falls behind the development of economy in national poverty counties.2) in the small scale study area, as a whole, the spatial autocorrelation coefficient of coupling coordination degree is relatively higher in the study area, and the coupling coordination degree in the eastern part is higher than that in western part; the whole coupling coordination degree in Shanxi province is slightly higher than that in Shaanxi province; the national poverty counties present a state of recession, and their coordinated development degrees are far bellower than that of non-national poverty counties.
