The oil industry has become very important to the world as oil is vital in sustaining this industrialized civilization we are living in. Most countries are viewing oil and, to a great extent, gas as critical resources and energy security is now part of most countries’national security concerns. China, India, and other developing countries has come to a point of their industrial and economic development where energy consumption is increasing rapidly in conjuction with increasing GDP. This increase in demand sparks off a fury of E&P activities at oil and gas fields worldwide.In China, to meet the increasing demand for energy, the oil companies are directing’ their efforts into offshore E&P. As part of diversifying sources of energy, government policies and regulations are also supporting developments in the offshore oil and gas industry. Increasing market needs and government policies formed a local market that is teaming with opportunities but also has increasing competitions.In this study, we will be using various common analysis tools to analyse the new China oil and gas industry environment formed by changes in user needs, and understand the interest and competition amongst participants in the industry. Also, we will illustrate the resources and capabilities of a chinese equipment manufacturer, MSP/Drilex, and will be looking into how it can utilize its resources, with adaptation to the chinese market, to develop a new subsea division, so as to increase its competitive advantages compared to new entrees to the market while obtaining improvements in the organization. In the last part of this report, we will also look into the implementation of the development strategies for MSP subsea division.
