Since its reform and opening-up, China has developed its path of urbanization with Chinese characteristics and achieved rapid industrialization and urbanization. However, there were some issues in every aspect of urbanization process. In order to proactively meets the domestic and foreign demands of development, correct the mistakes existing in the past traditional urbanization process, and promote China’s sustainable economic and social development, Chinese government actively explored and implemented new-type urbanization policy.Yangtze River delta is the region with the largest number of towns, the highest density of population, and the highest level of urbanization in China. The urbanization in this region developed at the earliest in China. The issues which came up in the region during its fast urbanization process were very typical. The valuable experiences of urbanization in this region can be demonstrated and learned by other regions in China.This paper’s objective is to discuss the connotation and characteristics of the new-type urbanization, and analyze the relations among the population, land and industry development. Based on the theoretical analysis, the paper qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes the urbanization’s current situation and features in Yangtze River delta region, including Shanghai city, Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province, from three perspectives of population, land and industry. Crucially, the paper builds a comprehensive index system to evaluate the urbanization level and development coordination in Yangtze River delta region. Also, the paper summarizes the significant issues in three perspectives of urbanization and respectively offers some suggestions for policies in the end.
