With the rapid development of array signal processing technology, more and more scholars pay attention to the acoustic sensor array. Direction of arrival estimation(DOA) as an important prerequisite for the acoustic sensor arrays for many applications plays an increasingly important role. Therefore, the traditional DOA estimation methods have some problems in practical applications, such as low resolution and poor anti-noise performance.And it does not apply to some applications with low snapshots and less number of array elements. In addition, there are some problems for the existing DOA estimation methods based on compressed sensing, such as long time for calculation, low estimation accuracy and so on.To solve these problems, based on the analysis of the uniform circular array and signal sparse representation model, the paper combines with the improved smoothness l0 norm algorithm and proposes a uniform circular array target DOA estimation method which is based on improved smoothed l0 norm algorithm. Instead of a Gaussian function used in smoothness l0 norm algorithm, the improved method uses a combination function with more steep to approximate l0 norm and it combines with modified Newton and damping step. It avoids "effect of sawtooth" of existence and the problems of slow convergence speed in the sl0 algorithm which takes the method of steepest descent and the gradient projection. At the same time, the improved method makes up for the various problems existing in the traditional DOA estimation methods.On the basis of the DOA estimation method of uniform circular array based on the improved smoothed l0 norm algorithm, this paper combines with broadband signal sparse representation model and proposes a fast wideband signal DOA estimation method based on improved smoothed l0 norm algorithm. By comparing and analyzing the experimental simulation with the existing wideband DOA estimation methods in terms of estimation accuracy and computation time, it shows that the improved method has a relatively high precision in computing time. What’s more, in the framework of compressed sensing theory,it provides a fast and accurate method for the application in the target DOA estimation methods based on acoustic sensor array.
