This dissertation is a study of the Clear Mirror:A Royal Genealogy, or widely known as rgyal rabs gsal ba’i me long. It mainly deals with the literature review and compares the research results of previous Tibetan scholars to come up with a conclusion on exact writing date and writer of the very text. It also deals with the different versions of the text, through investigating their textual bodies, the scribers’notes in different versions of the work, and structural characteristics to detect the writing date of different versions, and. Moreover, this dissertation also looks into the use of sources such as Buddha’s words, sutras, previous historiographical works and genealogical works written by Tibetan scholars, treasury texts from Jowo Je in this work.
