With the developing of China’s coal industry, attentions of the coal mine safety problems is getting more and more widely, all kinds of study of the coal mine positioning system also come one after another. With the rapid development of modern electronic communication technology, build a more robust and effective mine location system has a very important significance to mine safety production in China. In recent years, researches on the application of the wireless sensor network and its location is getting more and more deeply studied by domestic and foreign scholars, this technology has a broad development prospects. Node localization is a key technology in wireless sensor networks, and to obtain the node location information is the basic requirement of wireless sensor network.Through the researches based on the previous positioning algorithm analysis, in this paper we found that the previous studies have not fully conforms to the special case of the coal mine positioning, so in this paper we designed a localization algorithm that conform to the coal mine conditions based on the analysis of the special requirements of the coal mine positioning system. In this paper, we discusses the advantages of the combining of centroid localization algorithm and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) algorithm according to the researches of the ranging algorithm and the non-ranging algorithm, and lead to the idea of weighted the combination algorithm to increase the accuracy. At the same time, in this paper we found that the distance between the node has a very important influence on accuracy of algorithm, through the studies of the RSSI and its propagation loss model, we found that the influence factors of the distance between nodes also means RSSI values, and then we come up with the idea of optimized weighted factor combined with the RSSI ranging, this optimized weighted factor can fully reflect that the node with the big RSSI value plays a leading role in positioning, we deduced the WCBD (Weighted Centroid Based on Distence) localization algorithm through the above researches. After theoretical analysis, we proved that the WCBD algorithm has a obvious increase in accuracy than the past algorithms, it also has a certain adaptivity, so the WCBD algorithm is more aligned with the requirements to the coal mine positioning algorithms then past algorithms. Finally, we compared the WCBD algorithm with the other two algorithms based on the simulation analysis. The simulation results show that the accuracy of WCBD algorithm is high and the characteristics of error convergence speed is fast. Then we test the WCBD algorithm in a real application scenario, the test results show that the WCBD algorithm is more aligned with the requirements to the coal mine positioning algorithm than the other two algorithms, it proves that the WCBD algorithm has a great practical application value, and can be used in the society.
