Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has more and more effect which is considered as one of the three base technology of information; it has large applications consist of military reconnaissance, precision agriculture, smart home, industrial control, and forest environmental monitoring, etc. Localization as one of the essential Technologies in WSN is explored and studied by many experts and scholars. The paper studied localization algorithms in domestic and international based on the status of coal mine safety monitoring, according to the complex and changing environment which has the phenomenon of multipath, reflection and diffraction, etc. Also, the paper proposed a localization algorithm corrected by virtual nodes, and the proposed algorithm is applicable for coal mine environment; at last the paper designed and built the hardware and software platform to implement the algorithm.The main research is as follows:(1)Typical WSN localization algorithm:The research on the localization mechanism and the advantages and disadvantages of the typical localization algorithms and analysis of the typical localization algorithms combined with the localization algorithm performance indicators and the applicability of these algorithms is presented.(2)Coal mine localization algorithm:After research on the localization mechanism and principle of the localization algorithm of the current domestic and international according to underground coal mine complex and changing environmental conditions, the paper reveals that the current underground localization algorithms have two key issues to solve:①how to improve wireless signal attenuation model for the special coal mine roadway, thereby to increase the localization accuracy;②how to use the constraint relationship between anchor nodes and unknown nodes to correct the localization result, thereby to increase the localization accuracy.(3)The paper proposed a localization algorithm which is applicable to coal mine: The paper proposed a localization algorithm corrected by virtual nodes based on constraint relations between the coal mine anchor nodes and unknown nodes, the algorithm has improved the weighted centroid localization algorithm based on the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). The simulation results show that the average localization error of improved location algorithm decreases up to13.86%than the unimproved location algorithm.(4)To build the experimental platform of improved localization algorithm:With hardware nodes based on JANNIC5139, the paper designed and developed the host computer software systems, and it is verified by many experiments that the improved localization algorithm can solve the problem the unknown node may be outside the simulated tunnel.
