Compared with the traditional WLAN network, wireless Mesh network has the advantages of rapid deployment, easy installation, non line-of-sight transmission, robustness, flexible structure, high bandwidth and so on. In the traditional wireless Mesh networks, we often select one optimal transmission path between the source node and destination node, which is based on the current network state. Because the environment affects the quality of the wireless network link, there is a high packet loss rate, which makes the transmission rate, throughput and transmission quality become low. The opportunity routing technology can solve these problems. Opportunity routing makes use of the broadcast characteristics of the wireless network. When the source node broadcasts a packet, it will select a group of relay nodes that receive this packet to help forwarding the received packet. Thus, opportunistic routing technology allows more nodes to participate in the forwarding of data packets, which can greatly improve the success rate of data transmission, and further improve the transmission rate and throughput. However, the existing opportunistic routing studies select multiple relay nodes to forward the same packet, which will increase the transmission load of the network and reduce the throughput of the whole network. In this work, we design an opportunistic routing mechanism for wireless Mesh network, which can solve the redundant transmission problem and improve the performance of wireless Mesh networks. The proposed mechanism takes full advantage of the broadcast characteristic of the wireless link, which can select relay nodes near-optimally. Our experimental results show that the proposed opportunistic routing mechanism has a high efficiency ratio, which can meet the demand of wireless Mesh network routing.
