As people are putting more and more weight on education and their educational outlook has improved, the cause of Yunnan’s education has developed rapidly. However examination, being a significant approach to examine the training outcome and solidify students’ knowledge, is still traditional in form and has no significant change. As a result, this method cannot address the current training requirements. To make the assessment and consolidation more efficient and effective, and to enhance the interaction between teacher and students, it is a worthwhile topic for educators to reform the way how students take exam. This paper will give an introduction of the background and the meaning of Yunnan Open University’s online examination system with an object oriented method to conduct analysis and design. This applies unified modeling language to analyze current management process of Yunnan Open University. To find the defects, we analyze the original process by giving the business process diagram. Based on that, we adopt an information-based, business value driven approach to optimize the process. The system detailed in this paper can be decomposed to seven modules which are item bank module, exam management module, grading management module, record management, consultation management, database management module and system administration module. In functional analysis section, we use use-case diagram and use-case specification to capture the functionalities; afterwards we give the package diagrams for high-level functionality and sub-functionality. In data analysis section, we give the E-R diagram and relative database tables under system architecture. Our research set up a base for the construction of the system and further research.
