The metal belt continuously variable transmission(MB-CVT) on the market share increased year by year, it has the advantages of simple operation, low fuel consumption. The metal belt is core part of MB-CVT. Its working performance directly affects the performance of the whole transmission. The main research work is as follows:This paper studies the basic structure and transmission principle of the metal belt CVT.The metal belt CVT in kinematics has been analyzed and the geometric model has been established. The range of transmission ratio has been determined. The force relations between the metal blocks and other parts have been analyzed and the mechanical model of the metal block has been set up. The contact state of the metal block has been analyzed in different working conditions. An in-depth discussion on the contact problems arising from driving has been gotten. It was been divided in: metal block contacts with metal block in straight line segment; metal block contacts with metal block in arc line segment; metal block contacts with metal rings and metal block contacts with pulley. This paper proposed a metal belt continuously variable transmission numerical solution model of contact characteristics on the basis of elastic mechanics theory and contact mechanics theory in different working conditions. The numerical solution of the metal block has been found by using the finite element software. By comparing with the numerical solutions, those two methods results have good uniformity. According to the optimization design function of ANSYS, the metal block structure of dangerous position or safety parts have been optimized and a new metal block structure has been found.The metal belt CVT working principle and the working situation of the metal belt which is the core part of MB-CVT have been analyzed comprehensively based on the research above.The metal block contact models have been established. And the metal block contact characteristics have been analyzed. The research plays a positive role for the metal belt CVT research and development.
