The electric parking brake is a kind of brake-by-wire technologies. It has obvious advantage on structure and functions. The EPB system reduces the driver’s burden and improved safety with its comprehensive functions and reliable structure. The electric parking brake with slip ratio control is a new concept.Based on the national standard and relevant technical requirements, the electric parking brake system was researched. The main parameters and the 3D model of EPB was designed.The controller of EPB was designed; include the hardware circuit, control logics and software program. The circuit principle was designed and Printed circuit board was produced which is foundation of the future study. The software was written in the produced controller and the testing block was established to test the produced controller. The sufficient performance was verified by the result of the test.The slip ratio control by the EPB actuator in case of the hydraulic system failure is studied. The slip ratio control by EPB was verified. The vehicle model was built with the Simulink Toolbox and the EPB model was built with AMESim. The sliding model controller was presented to achieve the purpose of the slip ratio control as well as the PID controller. Based on the SMC algorithm. The slip ratio control with electric parking brake actuator is simulated with the SMC controller and PID controller. The results indicated that the SMC algorithm is more effective with its flexibility and stability on slip ratio control. The slip ratio was controlled accurate by EPB with SMC controller.
