| Chinese pagoda is a special architectural forms combined with Buddhism and local architecture from India. As a common part, masonry pagoda has characteristics such as erect, ground pressure stress, prone to tilt and brittle fracture. Existing masonry pagodas are varying degrees of the disease, in addition to the damage caused by earthquakes, the tilt caused of lack of foundation bearing capacity is also due to the threat of major risks of long-term preservation of masonry pagoda. Masonry reinforcement measures in addition to the anti-cracking measures taken by the upper structure, generally requires its foundation reinforcement. How reinforcement measures affect the anti-seismic capability of the masonry pagoda. How to strike a balance between strengthening the foundation and anti-seismic capability. In this paper, combined with practical engineering cases, tracking test the dynamic characteristics by environmental vibration method before and after Xi’an Wanshousi Pagoda foundation reinforcement and compare the results, which is rare that test dynamic characteristics of the same structure at different condition of base and ground. The main contents of this paper:1 Analyze and describe the disease on the structure, the causes, and the correction reinforcement plan of Xi’an Wanshousi Pagoda.2 Test the dynamic characteristics by environmental vibration method before and after Xi’an Wanshousi Pagoda foundation reinforcement, retain valuable information for masonry pagoda of our country.3 Based on the measured data, analyzes seismic capacity of Wanshousi Pagoda before and after environmental vibration by numerical analysis, discusses the impact of measures on the foundation reinforcement to dynamic characteristics and seismic capacity of Wanshousi Pagoda. This study showed that using the underpinning pile foundation reinforcement solved the lack of foundation bearing capacity of Wanshousi Pagoda, but the natural frequency and the earthquake response of the building increased slightly after the foundation which is harmful to seismic performance of masonry pagoda superstructure. Meet the lesser of two evils, it’s not advisable using the underpinning pile foundation reinforcement in masonry pagodas protection, unless a last resort. In this paper, the test data and conclusions provides a reference value for masonry pagodas in the collapsible loess area. |
