In the production of seamless steel pipe, nondestructive testing is a key to the escort for the production quality,especially in the last ring, hence great importance have been attached to the world. Seamless steel tube is mainly used in petroleum, chemical industry, ship, boiler and military industry etc. In order to avoid the severe disaster caused by the defects, nondestructive testing of seamless steel tube technology has been put forward higher requirements. Nondestructive testing technology is also the important means of manufacturers to ensure product quality, is the effective means to improve the quality of the product, competitiveness. Nondestructive testing technology therefore becomes one focus of research in nondestructive testing and engineering.Currently in seamless steel pipe detection, ultrasonic detection has the advantages of great depth, accurate positioning for defects and strong detection ability for steel pipe internal planar defects such as cracks, lamination, but because of the limitation of ultrasonic testing technology itself, it can’t detect the defects of seamless steel tube surface. Due to the skin effect of eddy current, eddy current testing probe can check the surface and near surface defects just to make up for the shortcoming of ultrasonic testing. Using eddy current and ultrasonic testing of their respective advantages, the joint inspection can make up the shortcomings for the eddy current and ultrasonic detection.This article refers to a lot of the related literature at home and abroad, based on ET(eddy current test), UT(ultrasonic test) detection principle, on the basis of analysis, puts forward in the nondestructive testing overall scheme of the Ф 100mm- Ф 273 mm seamless steel pipe: steel pipe run spiral forward, eddy current and ultrasonic probe tracking steel pipe surface, with 100% scanning inspection for steel pipe. Local water immersion ultrasonic testing is adopted in Ultrasonic testing. To Ф 100mm- Ф 273 mm seamless steel pipes, the overall scheme for eddy current, ultrasonic joint detection device is discussed, the concrete design schemes of electronic control system are gave. We can save on-site debugging time of software of the electric control system of the device by the S7- PLCSIM simulation software. Design method of eddy current and ultrasonic testing probes is discussed in this paper. The technical parameters are also designed and determined. Through on-site validation, Ф 100mm- Ф 273 mm seamless steel pipe eddy current and ultrasonic flaw detection device fulfills the requirements of the manufacturer’s specifications.
