Explorations On City Landscape Color Design

City is a gathering place for human activities. With the fast development of economy, the standard of living has been improved significantly. As the urban residents, we are craving for higher quality of urban landscape construction, a more human-oriented urban landscape.Driven by the globalization and industrialization, the generation and update of new material, new technology and new thoughts bring enormous influence on urban development and a more lively urban landscape is born. Colorful buildings, streets, communal facilities and advertisement signboards with different styles are sprouting everywhere. The consequence is that the whole city is filled with wildly dissonant colors, or color contamination. Gray becomes the main color for the urban center. It is hard to feel the history undertaken by the city since traditional regional culture vanishes. The sense of identity and belonging is lost in our city.Based on reading and analysis of a large number of documents on urban colorscape design, under the guidance of three essential elements of urban color(color property, composition property and material property)the author do the research on urban color landscape design in China.Based on full reference of foreign and domestic color landscape practice methods and achievements, Based on full reference of foreign and domestic color landscape practice methods and achievements,the author put forward the principle for colorscape design.In addition, an in-depth study on theory of color is carried out to draw color design method including color contrast and mediate, physical effect of color, color expression and organization form of colors, which are actively applied in the urban color landscape design.This paper focuses on seeking the specific method that can lead the urban color landscape design and implementation, for which discussion is carried out from two perspectives that “color design orientation taking the functional region of city” and “color design orientation taking the urban landscape space component elements” to explore landscape color design method and color-using suggestions. In the end, the design concept is applied for the color landscape of the main urban area of Jinzhong, Shanxi Province.Color reformation is implemented in Anning Street in the main urban area.It is expected to provide a reference for the further study of the urban color landscape theory system.
