Planning And Design Of Vest-Pocket Park Of Shichahai Area In Beijing

Shicha Hai area, three in one features, is not only a place for tourists and residents, but also for historic conservation, which is multifunctional, crowed and owing a high building density. People here can only use its limited single-formed public parks. This paper focus on solving the problems of open spaces, less in openness, lack of systematic, and not enough Beijing Style, through plan and design Vest-Pocket Parks, to optimize the open space system under a lot of restrictive factors in site.At the stage of investigation and analyse, point out the problem of the site. First, make clear of the open spaces through looking upon information and surveying in the public. Then collect and do analysis on their proportion, location, usage and status after surveying and mapping. Third, make out features of crowded distribution on the account of population densities in tourists and residents. Lastly, make analysis on what will be of good use and limit in protecting the grading reserves, such as heritage monuments, building protection update and so on.At the stage of planning, the three goals are building structures, networks and functions system, covering the site under 300 m service area, protecting the historic sites and landscape patterns. With the suitability analysis, the layer diagram and planning will be given after stacking factor of vest-pocket parks, including planning layout, grading system, service objects, functions, existing open spaces revitalization, network, and finally form a Vest-Pocket Park System.At the design stage, this study emphasizes on the local, coordination, coherence, simplicity, Beijing Style, humanity, intenting to develop the landscape that consistent and uniform, belonging to the urban structure, satisfying the users, and full of Beijing Style. Some general rules are defined in the elements of vest-pocket parks. The Wanghai Lou area was selected as a typical area to design.At the technical level, the uses of GIS function such as overlay, buffer, raster data, net work analysis contribute to useful information for planning and design.
