Research On Regional Character Display Form Of Urban Planning Exhibition Hall

With the continuous development of China’s socialist economy, urbanization has become a theme of both urban and rural development. As cities develop, they need to have a clear direction of the process for development and construction. During this developmental phase, the urban planning and exhibition hall was constructed to help support this. It is a showcase for urban construction achievements, and a platform showing how urban planning should be undertaken.This exhibition and the ideas behind it are becoming more and more important. This area of study is still new and therefore imperfect. China’s differing regional urban planning exhibitions incorporate local culture and ideas in their design. These unique characteristics serve as the starting point for this research, and a basis for this thesis. This paper reviewed the display design of Hubei Tian Men urban planning exhibition hall in order to explore how it represented and displayed local characteristics and culture. This design type showcases local cultural heritage and provides the correct development direction for urban development. During the process of urbanization, cities should maintain their unique personalities.The thesis is divided into four parts. The first is a study of the current situation of design and development for urban planning and exhibition halls, importantly looking through existing literature on the subject. The second analyzes and summarizes design elements used by urban planning and the Tian Men exhibition hall through field surveys and expert interviews. Each design element in the display is defined and shown from multiple perspective, as well as a summary of the current shortcomings existing in the planning of the museum display design. One obvious problem is the homogeneity throughout the display, without an obvious emphasis on local characteristics and culture. The third section explores the similarities from the display design thatdo coincide with local characteristics. This thesis works to merge the geographical elements and regional culture into the field of display design and invent a display design form with regional characteristics. This paper establishes design principles for display design forms with regional characteristic, while also emphasizing the relationship between design form and display content and the ultimate goal of the design. Finally, the paper proves the feasibility of this design form through the case of Tian men city planning and exhibition hall. I hope that this research can provide rich design show forms and promote the healthy development of urban planning exhibition halls.
