In order to avoid the deformation of the key dimensions after heat treatment of the nuclear reactor pressure vessel body(the following abbreviation PIS component) during the manufacture of the previous nuclear reactor pressure vessel(recorded as RPV for short),it is required to take a complete vertical machining to meet the final products after the heat treatment. In order to improve the manufacturing level of RPV,and also meet the requirements of the owners and the designers,it is necessary to solve the issue of Vertical Machining on the PIS component.This paper prsesnts a full analysis and planning to complete the goal of vertical machining. Firstly, the PIS components are flipped from the horizontal to the vertical position by using the large turning device and the bridge crane. Then it was successful to complete over the bottom and the sealing surface of the vertical machining with the 16 meters vertical lathe and the laser tracker clamping. Finally, the machining of M support is very difficult and particularity. So a special boring milling machine with special base for machining was adopted, and completed M support vertical machining in the pit successfully.It could process the key assembly size of the head of RPV with PIS components, and also could process the mounting interface dimensions of the internal component after the vertical machining of PIS components and M support, which ensuring the stability reliability safety of the nuclear reactor pressure vessel.The above process the manufacturing technology of nuclear heavy equipment to a certain degree after mastering the technology of vertical machining of PIS components and M support.The success and results of this kind of project implementation established a new benchmark in industry.It has far-reaching significance for the promotion of China’s nuclear power equipment manufacturing and development,but also provided a reference experience for other industries,which has the prospect of further development and application.
