With the rapid development of the city, it has not only led to the rapid development of the urban economy, but also made the city traffic overload. Traffic congestion is outstanding especially in big cities, such as Beijing, and it has become chronic illness restricting the urban development.Urban expressway as the main backbone of the city’s road network is the main artery between urban regions and cities to contact external traffic, but also to connect a fast passage for commuters between the residence and the work place. Including Beijing, many large cities exist the phenomenon that congestion focuses on urban expressway.Bus priority as the primary means to solve the problem of urban traffic congestion has become a consensus among the traffic management department around the world. And the bus lane is set to implement effective measures for public transport priority.Therefore, the bus lane setting on the expressway can improve the efficiency of expressway traffic, reduce traffic congestion, improve urban traffic overall operating environment. Then, it has become an urgent problem about how to coordinate the distribution of the road resources of vehicles and buses on time and space, to ensure the efficient operation of the bus and the basic smooth of expressway.This paper studies the applicability of bus lanes in the expressway. First, the setting form and necessary conditions for the bus lanes on the expressway are analyzed. Then, a model is built about the southwest third ring road based on Q-Paramics microsimulation model. And quantitative analysis of the simulation results before and after the bus lanes setting is done. Finally, countermeasures are brought up for the impact of bus lanes setting on expressway, and both the examples and the simulation of countermeasures are analysed about the southwest third ring road in Beijing.
