Study On The Effect Of In-vehicle Music On Driver’s Mental Workload And Driving Behavior

According to a large number of traffic accident statistics, the drivers’ factors is one of the main causes of the traffic accident because they will be disturbed by various factors inevitably while driving. A large number of studies shows that besides some well-known dangerous driving behaviors, such as fatigue driving and drink driving, listening to music in the car while driving may also cause traffic safety problems. Therefore, it is of great significance to prevent and reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents to analyse the influence of music to drivers.Firstly, based on the latest researches about conception, types and effects of music from the scientific world in and out of China, this paper study driver’s habit of listening to music while driving car by the questionaire for investigation and the awareness of the dangers of music on driving. Meanwhile, this paper also gather data of driver’s physiological, psychological, and driving behavior complete the music through the simulated driving experiment with different music conditions as most of the research at home and abroad usually do. This paper fully considering statistical requirements while selecting drivers, roads and types of music.Secondly, in order to analyse the difference of driver’s mental workload in different music environment, this paper analysis the rules of changes about driver’s mental workload by following the formation of driving behaviors. This paper also study the difference of driver’s mental workload in music environments according to driver’s ECG and driver’s subjective evaluation about mental workload. Results shows that the soft music have the effect of reduce the driver’s mental workload while rock ’n’ roll will increase it obviously.Moreover, collision frequency, standard deviation and the frequency of lane changing are chosen as indicators to analyse the difference of driver’s driving behavior in different music conditions base on the study of change rules of driver’s mental workload in music environments. It shows that neither interfere nor improvement effect did soft music act on driving behavior, while rock ’n’ roll obviously cause interference.Fially, this paper gives the definition of the risk of driving behavior according to the research results of driver’s mental workload and driving behaviors in music environment. Evaluation of risk of driving behavior in music environments has been given by the indexs of driving behavior. Besides, the study takes the drivers’ heart rate variability as input and risk of driving behavior as output, establishes the physiological predictors system of driver’s hazard perception and proposes the in-vehicle music listening guidelines for the drivers, which can help to reduce car accidents and ensure driver safety.
