The polyurethane-steel sandwich orthotropic bridge deck is a new type of bridge deck, which is formed after the common steel plate of the bridge deck replaced with the polyurethane steel sandwich structure, and it has fewer number longitudinal ribs. Nowadays, it has been used for the new bridge deck construction,bridge deck replacement and reinforcement in foreign countries.Because the new bridge panel is not yet used in China and has no corresponding research, the paper analyzed the static behavior and local stability of the new bridge deck under the complex load condition by finite element software to reveal its mechanical properties and providetheoretical basis for its application in China.First of all, the paper introduced sandwich plate’s concept, mechanical analysis model and stability theory after synthesizing the existed research theory. Then, showed the general knowledge, three dynamicssystem and stability theory.Secondly, according to the present engineering example and the steel box girder design specification, preliminary designed a three span continuous steel box girder, using ordinary orthotropic bridge deck to take place of. Afterits structure and stress response satisfy the requirements of the engineering standard, used new bridge deck to take place ofordinary bridge deck.Then, analyzed the stress response of the new bridge deck for complex loadcondition, compared with thatof ordinary bridge deck. From the calculation results, the mechanical properties of the new bridge deck couldmeet the safety and reliability requirements in bridge, and even is superior to the common bridge deck in some aspects.Thirdly, based on mechanical system of bridge deck, extract polyurethane-steel sandwich orthotropic bridge decksub-model from the whole bridge model, and discuss its elastic and nonlinear bucklingperformance.The ultimate bearingcapacity of the new bridge deck is influenced byelastic plastic properties, large deformation and initial imperfections, and we should considerthese factors when design in engineering.Finally, the influence of the sandwich platethickness, the sandwich layer thickness and longitudinal rib’s number on the stability of the new bridge deck is discussed.By comparison analysis, we know theirimpactionon stabilitybehaving of the new bridge panel, which could providetheoretical basis for its project optimization design.In short, the research work in this paper, including structure design of the polyurethane-steel sandwich orthotropic bridge deck and study of its static behavior and stability performance under the whole bridge load environment, can provide references for application research of polyurethane-steel sandwich technologyin bridge engineering in our country.
