Adolf Loos, who is the pioneer of modernism in architecture, respect the classicism at the same time. In Loos’ works, the development process of individual house design can best represent the evolution of his space theory. This paper attempts to start with the classicism connotation in individual houses, elaborates on the development of Loos’individual houses which is both based on classicism and transcends it. The paper provides a reference for the relationship processing of contemporary architecture and traditional architecture.The paper first outlines Loos’ idea about classicism. Then the paper is divided into three parts and focused on three key words. It explores respectively the remain of classical plane characteristics under "Raumplan" theory, the changes of classical facade vocabulary on the basis of "Bekleidung" theory, the changes of relationship between classical axis and behavioral streamline based on "Einfuhlung" theory. The Following part is the contrastive analysis of Loos’three individual houses in his later period, which intends to summarize the common features of individual houses in maturation stage based on living examples. Then the paper probes into common rules’flexibility in the use under different environmental requirements.At last it comes to the conclusion.
