Study On The Architecture Philosophies And Works Of Mr. Zhaoye Guan

Under the background of globalization, the key problem needs to be pay attention to and rethink is how to solve the contradictions between modern and tradition, foreign culture and local culture, overlap and interact, and to proceed the Chinese architecture culture will the times. Since the famous architects, who are authorities in the field, are gone or aged, it has been an urgent issue to study their design philosophies. Mr. Zhaoye GUAN, a national engineering designing master, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a professor in School of Architecture of the Tsinghua University, is one of thoses; he has rich profound attainments in study of the history and theory about the modern architecture and Chinese and western classical architecture, and has gained high achievement in the exploring of new architecture with age, ethnic and local characteristics. Based on above, the writer selects the architecture design philosophies and works of Mr. Zhaoye GUAN as the study object aiming at gaining more enlightenments from the design philosophies and personalities of old architects; and hopes to make some contribution to the systematic study on the architecture design philosophies and works of Mr. Zhaoye GUAN since the existing researches on Mr. Zhaoye GUAN are only introductions to his design philosophies and works and are lack of systematical.This work takes “background—philosophy—technique—practical” as the main writing idea and sticks to a principle of “Mutual verifications between theory and Practice” to achieve a systematic understand of Mr. Zhaoye GUAN’s “the philosophy guides the creation, and the creation sublimates the philosophy” idea. The main contents are as follows: Firstly, trace to the source and studies the background of Mr. Zhaoye GUAN’s architecture philosophy: dig the origins between Mr. Zhaoye GUAN and architecture, and analysis the affecting elements of his architecture philosophy. Secondly, explores the connotative meaning of Mr. Zhaoye GUAN’s main architecture philosophy, and states his ideas regarding to essential attribute of the architecture, architecture and environment, and enlightenment of architecture in the architecture theory. Thirdly, based on the medium between Mr. Zhaoye GUAN’s main architecture philosophy and his works, distills his classic design technique of architecture layout, space design and details of architecture in practical. Fourthly, analyzises some of his representative works in details to rethink his design philosophy and technique. At last, concludes this work and summarizes the enlightenment from Mr. Zhaoye GUAN’s architecture philosophies and works.
