The Research On The Design Method And Construction Technology Of Graded Macadam

In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, there are higher requirements for the road traffic. Currently, semi-rigid bases are adopted at high-grade asphalt pavements in China. But with the extensive use of semi-rigid base, there are more and more problems for this kind of base. Graded macadam is a kind of low cost road material, which is widely used in road construction in abroad. Therefore, by a lot of theoretical analysis and engineering field practice, this article summarized and explored the graded macadam road grading design, design parameters and indicators, quality control of the construction process.By taking into account grading design method, this paper studied the relationship between different the grading designs and forming methods and the porosity and dry density. The results showed that the graded macadam designed by n method has bigger dry density, more compact structure, while the graded macadam designed by I method has a lesser variation range for Porosity, good stability for mixture. Studies also have shown that coarse aggregate in graded macadam used vibration compaction can more fully play a skeleton role.The researches on the determination of optimum water content, maximum dry density, CBR compression resilient modulus, and the analysis of mechanical property and stability of graded macadam were conducted in the paper. Then, the design criteria and design modulus were proposed in the paper on the basis of the analysis and calculation on the maximum shear stress regularity of graded macadam and semi-rigid base and flexible base.Combined with practical engineering, the research on the construction technology of graded macadam asphalt pavement was conducted and measures that applied to improve the construction technology and quality were proposed, as well as the preparatory work and attentions. The research results can promote the popularization and application of grade macadam pavement.
