The herdsmen own new buildings, imitate the city residential, but their way of life can not be a good match.Due to the lack of research, dwellers, combing and summary on the life of the grassland and unreasonable design, unified planning construction of new settlements, reducing the rationality and comfort of the new residential buildings.This paper making the grassland dwellings of Inner Mongolia as research object, focus on many aspects including architecture plane function layout, inhabitation mode, Exterior adornment style, indoor physical environment, energy use, ecological characteristics, national culture to study the adjustment and change of grassland residents in order to adapt to the change of ownership pastures and grassland ecological environment and the influence of residents in mode of production and lifestyle changes in past 50 years. In addition, we understand and master the contradiction between the grassland local-style dwelling houses and the herdsmen living habits, finding out the deficiency existing in prairie houses on the architectural design. And putting forward reasonable suggestions and establishing corresponding prairie houses design patterns according to the lifestyle differences, under different conditions such as settled status, family structure, mode of production and so on. To promote the sustainable development of Inner Mongolia steppe nomads settled living environment. Improve herdsmen production and living conditions, and increase utilization rate of the natural energy and resource. Hoping to the effect of promoting and developing to the design for grassland local-style dwelling houses.
