The Comparative Study On The Traditional Dwelling Houses Of Chaoshan Area And Leizhou Area In Guangdong

Located in different part of Guangdong province,Chaoshan in the east are closely identified with Leizhou in the west。They show high identity among natural condition and culture background. To study the differences between culture areas which are influenced by south Fujian Province,including Chaoshan and Leizhou,researchers even Created a new word “pan Minnan Cultural Field”. However,on the manifestation of dwelling houses, People living in Leizhou Peninsula still show many different with People living in the Chaoshan area.This paper taked the traditional dwelling houses in Chaoshan and Leizhou Peninsula as research object. The author analyzed many typical villages and buildings in both areas as examples. To find out their differences and things in common and finally explains why,the author used the method of combining field investigation and theoretical analysis, macro and case studies and also used the knowledge of Cultural Geography,Historical Geography, sociology. The author tried to reveal the characteristics and cultural connotation of these two kinds of dwellings as they were in different development situation.This paper discussed and defined the research object, range and method, outlined the research status of traditional village of this two places first. It focused on defining the specific area, studying the historical background and development law of traditional dwelling houses culture, especially studying about Chaoshan and Leizhou. It taked effort to grasp the research results that have already existed.Then the author sketched the natural environment, human conditions, economic development of Chaoshan and Leizhou Peninsula, summarized the distribution and form characteristics of dwellings in these different areas. This paper focused on the comprehensively researching and summarizing the overall layout from macroscopic view, the combination from middle view and out form from microcosmic view, with the comparison analysis method. Finally, we summarized the main similarities and differences of traditional dwellings in Chaoshan and Leizhou, and analyzes further reasons of the differences. Than we got the conclusion of this paper.Through a comparative research in each chapter, the author hoped to achieve the goal that rich the study of traditional dwellings in Chaoshan and Leizhou,and add some new materials to the study of these two places. This paper tried to point out the cultural connotation hiding behind the appearance by comparing the differences between Chaoshan and Leizhou dwellings and analyzing the reason. So that we can contribute to our own culture and Carry forward the national self-confidence.
