Visual Status Research Of Urban Fringe Space

Economic Globalization and immigration have changed our society in economic, politic, culture and lifestyle, at the same time, city as its carrier, its visual status reflects the change of social development and the coming problems. China’s urbanization process began in the early 1980’s, broke through the binary division of social structure between urban and rural areas, cities began to entre on a large scale, high speed expansion phase, the border between cities and countryside becomes more and more fuzzy, rural-urban fringe zones, urban villages gradually aroused the public’ concern. Rural-urban fringe zones is a space that has the particular Chinese characteristic expanded concept, embodied the political system, the social structure and urbanization which brings a series of problems and contradictions, it is like a mirror, reflects the problems in the process of urban development. The research of urban-rural fringe zones’ problems and contradictions is also the important part of the integrity study of the whole city. However, due to the chaotic visual state and terrible urban experience, the value of the city space has been covered. As a result, it hindered the development of its economy, politics and culture. This research explores the city from different perspectives, such as urban space, visual status, driving factors and philosophy, by data collection, case study, on-the-spot investigation and the related literatures. This research aims to dig the stories behind the urban-rural fringe, intends to use visual means to make the city space speak, to cause the city managers or everyone’s attention to concern on the special city space, which in the long run to help it realize their own advantages. In this research, I advised use a "visibility" way to improve the urban space visual experience, which means visual adjust measures have to according to local conditions, such as the research of local historical background, culture, city characteristics. By using visual tools, with the help of storytelling, use the urban space to display urban culture, to improve the quality of urban space, promote economic development and improve the public aesthetic value, self-identity formation, so as to blend the urban-rural fringe into a real city.
