Water supply facilities plays an important role in city operation. Traditional method which depends on experience fails to manage water supply network for the network’s scale has expanded and the structure of it has become more and more complex. The pressure, velocity and energy consumption can be found out with the help of hydraulic model of water supply network. Reliable solution for unreasonable pressure district, unscientific topology and high energy consumption zone is obtained through the deep analysis of model. In this paper the water supply network of a city was established, pipe network state assessment was set as research objective to guarantee water safety and promote management level.Baocheng district of Shenzhen was selected as research area, the author obtained valve headloss curves, pump definitions, demand patterns, flow of nodes and pressure data. The steady-state hydraulic model and extended period hydraulic model were established through importing GIS data, adjusting topology, extracting node elevation, creating background map, distributing node flow and setting boundary condition. The calibration of steady-state hydraulic model was finished by completinging network data, adjusting node flow and altering Hazen Williams C under largest flow alternative, smallest flow alternative and average flow alternative. Besides, demand patterns and other model parameters were adjusted to meet hydraulic grade and flow after pump. The hydraulic model which was calibrated could be applied to pipe condition analysis, reliability assessment and fire flow analysis. The pressure distribution, head loss distribution and velocity distribution under 3 different water consumption condition contributed to energy saving, optimal operation and long-term planning. The reliability of water supply system could be assessed through no service zone, affected elements, pipe length, affected flow, isolation valves and outage segment length. Then the of low reliability district was assessed and reasonable transformation suggestion were proposed. The simulation of fire flow under largest flow alternative could discover district falling short of fire protection criteria and analyse the reason of insufficient fire flow.In this paper, the author introduced the method of building and calibrating a hydraulic model systematically, and applied the model to daily operation management.
