It is important to investigate the impacts of ambient wind on the performance of air-cooled steam condenser (ACSC), which may ensure the safe and economic operation of ACSC. Take #5 unit in Tuoketuo power plant as an example, the external air flow field of ACSC was obtained under windy conditons through numerical simulation. The impacts of wind speeds and wind directions on ACSC performance were investigated, and the exhaust steam pressure under windy condition was forecasted. The results show that reversed flow occurs in upstream Row 1 condenser cell under+X wind condition, while the hot air recirculation is found in upstream Column 1 condenser cell under+Y wind condition. The heat transfer efficiency of ACSC is decreased with the increase of wind speed. The wind in WNW direction has the minimum effect on the ACSC performance, while the+Y wind has the maximum effect on the ACSC performance. The shrinking of low pressure region under ACSC platform may help to increase the cooling air flow through the condenser cell and further improve the heat transfer rate of ACSC.
