Power time synchronization network is the basic support network for the normal operation of the network, which is used to provide accurate and uniform phase synchronous reference for the whole power grid, and it is an important mean to ensure the normal operation of the power grid. With the development of the smart grid and the growing scale of the grid, the services that need time synchronization are gradually increasing, and timing accuracy of GPS satellite navigation is not high, which has been unable to meet the higher requirements on the synchronization of the time synchronization of power business. Therefore, PTP over SDH time synchronization network should be set up to ensure the accurate time synchronization requirements of the power system, and the power system time synchronization test scheme should be designed to verify the stability and accuracy of the time synchronization signal transmission.SDH as the main communication network, PTP can be used as a kind of communication service in SDH 2M. And by transmitting PTP time synchronization signal, the power system can achieve time synchronization. By using SDH transport network El transmission line to transmit PTP time synchronization signal, the SDH E1 line will affect the precision of time synchronization transmission of PTP signals in different link length and protection switching. In order to meet the requirements of the time accuracy of the power system, based on the IEEE 1588 time synchronization technology, the time synchronization requirements of different scenarios and business to the PTP over SDH, which are designed in different link length and protection switching conditions of laboratory testing program.The Paragon-X obtained the SDH transmission network noise respectively that transmit PTP time synchronization signal in 10/32/60 network nodes from the actual network. The test results show that with the increasing of the number of SDH network nodes and the growth of link synchronous, its effect on PTP over SDH time synchronization operation is more and more significant. In addition, the program is also on the transmission network to link the main optical fiber plug to simulate the occurrence time of synchronous switching protection path simulation test. The test results show that the protection switching (ring protection) for PTP over SDH time synchronization operation has certain effect, but the effect is not obvious. Protection switching (linear multiplex section protection) for PTP over SDH time synchronization operation has almost no effect.PTP is taken as an important basis for testing time synchronization. PTP over SDH in different link length and protection switching conditions of laboratory testing program are designed. The stability and accuracy of the PTP E1 time synchronization of SDH signals that in different link length and protection switching conditions are verified, which has certain practical significance.
