With the continuous improvement of the economic and the continuous development of the life, power energy development is far behind the needs of people, at the same time, the concern for the environment is gradually improving, thereby it is improved the speed of construction of large power stations and substations, as the power substation plays a central role in the network, how to ensure the security and stability work, which determines the life of the power system. From the current work of the electric power network, resulting in the most critical impact source of substation failure is lightning, if lightning damage phenomenon occurs in the substation, bringing widespread blackouts throughout the power system, and because many devices are not available insulated restore features inside substation, once burned, it is difficult to resume normal work, causing heavy economic losses to property, therefore, seriously improve substation lightning protection measures will bring great economic value and theoretical significance. From this viewpoint, the paper chooses Guangzhou kapok 500 kV Substation entity analysis, completed by ATP-EMTP simulation modeling and simulation software, the research went into the line and substation, improved substation suffered from lightning overvoltage damage theory. This article focuses on of three aspects analysis:The first aspect is simulation modeling, it is substation into the line overhead line model, the model tower, lightning wave model, the station each electrical device models. Special analysis of insulator flashover model, select ATP-EMTP simulation module in TACTS insulator flashover characteristics.The second aspect is the simulation to determine a reasonable simulation parameters after analyzing several factors electrical distance lightning location of the point, lightning mode, operation mode substation grounding resistance and the size of the arrester and the protected devices for generating substation overvoltages, special study voltage substation appeared most serious, the stations by means of over-voltage amplitude.The third aspect is to analyze the pros and cons of different lightning protection measures. Start an overview 500 kV GIS substation lightning protection requirements, a comprehensive theoretical study and practical operating experience substations arrester provides three ways, via simulation, to obtain the most economical and reliable way to install arresters.
