As a rapidly developed pillar industry, the complexity of the substation construction increases the difficulty of electric power construction. Especially, is second only to the substation construction process involving the construction of building and installation, so it needs special coordination and cooperation between each other. However, the substation construction project safety management methods and techniques are still relatively backward. Safety accident cannot be effective controlled especially in the aspect of IT application.In order to reduce the occurrence of accidents during the procedure of substation construction, this study proposed a substation construction safety management system for unsafe behavior based on BIM, real-time location and sensing technology. This system combined BIM with real-time location and sensing technology, compared virtual construction model with real construction situations, achieved the real-time position data of workers and moving equipment, and would prevent unsafe behaviors from operators or maintained This system could also reduce the unsafe behavior of meeting danger resources or intruding danger zones, and of misusing personal protective equipment (PPE) within danger zones. Based on a specific substation project case, this paper describes the detailed procedure of the system application, shows the safety inspection results during the specific construction process, verifies the validity of the safety management system, and makes some suggestions of the application. From the results of system monitoring, site managers could provide construction workers with particular safety educations and trains to reduce the rate of accidents and avoid casualties and property damage.This research is beneficial to improve the information level of substation construction project safety management, reduce the occurrence of accidents, and provide the new research perspective and method, which has important theoretical significance and practical application value.
