Power quality directly affects the operational characteristics of electrical equipment, even affect the safe operation of power grid, so power quality for the operation of the social production and people’s life is significant. With numerous non-linear load and intermittent new energy connected to the grid, harmonic problems have been the focus of both sides of power supply in recent years. In-depth knowledge of metallurgy load operating characteristics, to analyze the harmonic problems and governance, safe and economic operation in power system has important significanceThis paper mainly studied three common types of typical metallurgical load in the power grid, including the intermediate frequency furnace, rolling mill and electric arc furnace.1. From the load characteristics, the harmonic problems and compensation solutions three aspects to analyze, giving the calculation method of all kinds of load harmonic index. This method provides a calculation basis for the similar load which connected to the electricity grid.2. Combining with the measured data, this paper gives the recommended values of Characteristic harmonic containing rate which generated by three kinds of load. On this basis, the harmonic governance, reactive power compensation scheme is presented. used one example to analysis and study the filtering scheme and its effect.3. To study the harmonic problems of AC electrical arc furnace, a mathematical model and its simulation model is established. Validation and analyzed the different short circuit capacity of electric arc furnace harmonic.
