With the rapid development of power system, the research on the power network has become increasingly wide, however, the transient stability of the power network is becoming more and more serious. In this case, the analysis of power system transient stability has become an important factor to ensure the safe operation of the system.Firstly, the basic theory of power system transient stability was illustrated. By linking the area of the generator angle characteristic curve with the area enclosed between the original motive power curve and the generator rotor or the release of the generator rotor to get the maximum of generator rotor angular rocking, and judging the transient stability of generator by this way. Some commonly used system stability analysis methods were presented, the characteristics and application of several methods were compared and analyzed and the development history and current situation of the research of transient stability of the system in the domestic and foreign was also discussed. The development of power system transient stability analysis was prospected.Secondly, the mathematical model of the system elements was also established, including synchronous generator, excitation control system, prime mover, speed control system, load. The turbine and steam turbine were summarized as examples of the prime mover. The static and dynamic conditions of load were also summarized.Then this paper briefly introduced the main method of using the simulation software PSASP. How to input data was also illustrated with a local system. The drawing of single line diagram was introduced and the impedance of the system was drawed.Finally, a local system of yuncheng power system was selected. The power flow and transient stability were calculated. The system transient stability under different parameters including excitation system, speed system, fault location, load, generator reactance was simulated. The specific factors that affect the stability of the system were illustrated by simulation data.
